The Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS) is the sanctions-specialist sibling of CAMS, also administered by ACAMS. Sanctions specialization is one of the fastest-growing sub-lanes in financial-crime compliance, so “do I need the sanctions-specific one, or is CAMS enough for my role?” is exactly the kind of decision the neutral comparison and the recommender are built to resolve.

Eligibility

CGSS requires 40 eligibility credits, the same points-style threshold CAMS uses. Unlike the CAMS page, ACAMS does not publish the same itemized per-category breakdown for CGSS credits, and membership does not count toward the 40-credit total.

Membership

CGSS shares the same ACAMS membership as CAMS: $295 a year for private-sector, $195 a year for public-sector. You do not need two memberships to hold both credentials.

Recertification

CGSS recertifies on a 3-year cycle requiring 30 total credits, at least 15 of which must come from ACAMS. That is a lighter specialist-level cycle than CAMS’s 60-credit associate-level cycle.

Cost: not yet published

The CGSS exam/package fee is not shipped as a fact here: secondary sources conflict (a $1,695 standard package, a $2,180 virtual-classroom bundle, and a separately-cited $695 member / $895 non-member exam-only fee all appear, and they do not reconcile into one number).
